Counseling

The Masters of Arts program in Counseling offers two areas of concentration. The program prepares counselors to work in either community counseling or school counseling. Professional counseling is the application of mental heath, psychological or human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioral or systemic intervention strategies that address wellness, personal growth, or career development, as well as pathology. The mission of the program is to focus on the preparation of competent and ethical entry-level community and school counselors to work in a variety of settings within the state, region, and country.

Accreditation

The Graduate Counseling Program at West Virginia University is one of two counselor education programs in the State of West Virginia and the only program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP).
