Carolyn P. Atkins
Professor in the HRE Department of Speech Pathology/Audiology

The recipient of numerous teaching awards, Dr. Atkins was the 2005 WV CASE Professor of the Year. This is a national teaching award sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The award is based on dedication to teaching, commitment to students, and innovative instructional methods.
Dr. Atkins also has received the WVU Foundation Award for Outstanding Teacher, the College of Human Resources & Education Award for Outstanding Teacher, and the Golden Key International Honour Society Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teacher. In 2002, she was selected as Most Loyal Faculty Mountaineer; in 2004, she received the College of Human Resources & Education Laddie Bell Award for Distinguished Service and was inducted into Mountain Honorary as an Associate Member. In 2006, she was honored as Italian-American Woman of the Year at the Clarksburg Italian Heritage Festival. In 2009, she received the WVU Student Affairs Outstanding Achievement Award.

Who:
– Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts graduates
– Five-year teacher education graduates
– Master of Science and Master of Arts graduates
– Doctor of Education, Doctor of Philosophy, and Doctor of Audiology graduates
What:
– College of Human Resources and Education Commencement
– Reception will immediately follow the Commencement ceremony
– Information will be mailed to permanent home addresses. Online RSVPs are required.
Where:
– WVU Coliseum
– Graduates should report to the upper Red Gate area no later than 8:00 a.m.
– To access the Red Gate second floor, enter through the Coliseum Red Gate and follow the signs to the stairs or elevator that will take you to the second floor check-in area.
– Once upstairs, go to the appropriate check-in table to receive your name card. You must have your name card to take part in the procession.
When:
– May 12, 2012, at 9:00 a.m.
– Graduates must report to the upper Red Gate no later than 8:00 a.m.
Reception Information
– Graduates and their friends and families are invited to the HR&E Commencement Reception.
– The reception will be held in the Shell Building, adjacent to the WVU Coliseum, immediately following the Commencement ceremony.
– Individual locations for the five departments and the five-year teacher education program will be clearly marked.
– This should be a wonderful opportunity for pictures with faculty, friends, and family.
